The battle for De Ligt is the latest chapter in the war between PSG and Barcelona
PSG and Barcelona are competing to sign Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt, the most recent fight between the different sides.
The relationship between Paris Saint-Germain and F.C Barcelona is not good, having fought to acquire many players down the years.
Barcelona are awaiting De Ligt’s response after reaching an agreement with Ajax, though they understand that they are unable to compete with PSG’s offer to the player. In France, they accept that the middle back is nearer to joining the Parisians.
Both Barcelona and PSG came to blows as they attempted to sign Frenkie de Jong, with the Catalan side winning that battle, and that is additionally the situation with Antoine Griezmann, who is set to move Barcelona this mid year.
Elsewhere, there have been players who the two have either fought to sign or been determined to hold on to, such as Adrien Rabiot, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, David Luiz and Marco Verratti.
The most famous of all, though, is Neymar, who joined PSG after they paid his 222 million release clause, following Barcelona’s refusal to sell the Brazilian forward.
The conflict will not end with De Ligt either. PSG are tracking Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic, two disposable players for Barcelona.
