Real Madrid to confront Ajax in the last 16 of the Champions League
The draw for the last 16 phase of the Champions League on Monday saw ruling bosses Real Madrid drawn against Ajax, setting up a match with plenty of history.
This will be the thirteenth time that Los Blancos and the Dutch side, whose identity was formed by Johan Cruyff, and the present record has seven triumphs for Madrid, one draw, and four triumphs for Ajax.
They last met in the Champions League group stages in 2012 as Madrid, driven by Jose Mourinho, did the twofold over the group from Amsterdam, winning 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu before recording the same result in the Dutch capital.
Ajax’s record in the previous six gatherings has been exceptionally poor, losing 20-2 over the matches, but this side seems to be special and they very nearly secured first place in their group, pushing Bayern Munich right to the end.
