Pep Guardiola reveals what he told Man City players
Pep Guardiola challenged his players to continue sending out a message to their title rivals with their exhibitions after they went five points clear.
The unbeaten champions held off a late Watford fight back to rack up their seventh league win on the turn and expand their lead over Liverpool.
And City boss Guardiola, whose league leaders head to Chelsea on Saturday, said: « The best message and most grounded message is the manner in which we played.
« What’s more, when our adversaries see us following 60, 65 minutes and can state ‘alright, Man City are still there. But when they see the last 10, 15 minutes they can say we can beat them.
« When they see what we have done after last season and now 15 recreations, 13 wins and two draws and one especially in Anfield there are no complaints.
« We are fit the bill for the Champions League last 16. I don’t have many regrets.”
City were 2-0 up and cruising at Vicarage Road through goals from Leroy Sane and Riyad Mahrez before Abdoulaye Doucoure’s sketchy 85th moment complete set up a cheeky wrap up.
City held on after Watford piled on the pressure and Guardiola considered the strained end an important exercise.
He said: “We spoke in the dressing room that we have to learn about what happened in the last 20 or 25 minutes. yes . That is the exercise. Never would you be able to neglect to play.
