Napoli ask to split James Rodriguez payment over two years
Real Madrid and Napoli are in advanced negotiations for James Rodriguez, which would see the Colombian rejoin with previous Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Los Blancos need to sell players after the arrivals of Rodrygo Goes, Eder Militao, Luka Jovic, Eden Hazard and Ferland Mendy, particularly with more names supposed to be en route.
The first formula for the 50 million euro payment proposed by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is 10m euros this summer, followed by 40m euros in June 2020, as per La Gazzetta dello Sport, a report that has since been affirmed by MARCA.
This formula, which this newspaper is unaware if Madrid have accepted or not, would be very similar to the one that Bayern Munich undertook, also when Ancelotti was there, as they brought James to Bavaria two seasons ago. In June 2017, the 27-year-old was advanced to Bayern for 10m euros – five million euros for every season – and a choice to purchase for 42m euros, which the German side selected not to execute.
Los Blancos are now only contemplating the definitive departure of the playmaker, even if the payment is split. James’ transition to Napoli is looking increasingly likely.
