Juventus and Liverpool on transfer alert with winger Brandt
LIVERPOOL are reportedly ready to trigger a £21.5million release clause to sign Julian Brandt this summer – but face rivalry from Juventus F.C
It is understood the Reds have been keeping a close eye on the Bayer Leverkusen winger, who has piled on seven objectives and 14 helps this season.
Brandt, 22, signed a new deal at the BayArena just 12 months ago, holding him under contract until 2021.
But according to Bild, the relatively cheap £21.5m release clause will come into effective if Leverkusen neglect to fit the bill for the Champions League.
They are currently eighth in the Bundesliga, seven hapless of Eintracht Frankfurt in fourth.
Liverpool attempted to sign Brandt in 2017 as they looked to bolster their attack but – with regular football not a guarantee at Anfield – he chose to remain put to boost his odds of playing at the World Cup.
In the end, the breakdown of the move worked for both parties: Brandt came off the bench in all three of Germany’s grim crusade in Russia while Liverpool marked Mohamed Salah for £34.3m.
However, signing for Liverpool now looks to be a far more appealing proposition with a Champions League last and a certifiable title challenge throughout the last two seasons.
And while he is unlikely to be a regular starter should he make the switch to Anfield this summer, Brandt would without a doubt be an inconceivably helpful resource for individual German Jurgen Klopp.
