It’s paradoxical that professional football, with more and more business elements than sporting ones, isn’t governed by the conventional parameters of a normal business.
The tremendous effect of football’s stars has implied that the power in football has moved through and through lately.
One example of this shift of power towards the players is from a few years ago, when former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell was in conflict with Pep Guardiola. « He continues saying that I’m not in control and that he is, » Rosell said at the time. « In any case, he’s wrong, as the person who is in charge is Lionel Messi. »
The chain of command has been inverted because of the path followed by several footballers at clubs where they’ve put themselves in front of the badge.
There is increasingly more power in the changing area and players never again feel like a representative of the club at the biggest teams. One day last year Real Madrid didn’t train because there was snow and the player decided not to go out in it.
More recently, there was the dressing room argument when Sergio Ramos criticised Florentino Perez for letting Cristiano Ronaldo leave. There are also examples of players moving away from a coach at a pivotal minute. These models demonstrate that control in present day football is no longer in the best floor workplaces.

There are definitely preferable mentors over Jose Mourinho, who may at first look appear a little out-dated and who just marked physical players at Manchester United.
but, Liverpool won’t let Jurgen Klopp leave, Mauricio Pochettino would be extremely costly and it appears that it’d be hard to get Zinedine Zidane to acknowledge the job he dismissed the previous summer.
The Frenchman knows that as well as getting some players back on form, he’d have to get rid of some of those who led him to glory.
There is no manager like Mourinho with regards to assuming responsibility for a changing area, a manager who listens to speeches focussing more on who is talking than on what they’re saying.
