Jose Mourinho ‘admits he wishes he had signed Ivan Perisic rather than Alexis Sanchez’
JOSE MOURINHO has admitted he would have preferred to sign Ivan Perisic instead than Alexis Sanchez, as indicated by reports.
The Manchester United chief missed out on the Croatia wide man in the late spring of 2017 – and landed Sanchez the next January.
And The Times claims the boss made it known in private he is not happy with how things unfurled.
Mourinho is a big fan of Inter Milan ace Perisic and did all that he could to entice him to Old Trafford.
But after failing to get a deal done, United swooped for Sanchez, 29, in a swap bargain including Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Chile winger has been rounding up £505,000 seven days from that point onward, while contributing little on the field.
Old Trafford chiefs were concerned about Perisic’s age while considering a move and it could have been the integral factor in them not driving an arrangement through.
At 29, the Croat’s esteem will before long be declining and, in contrast to Sanchez, he would have cost a tidy sum to bring in.
But with the former Arsenal forward’s huge wages, it isn’t sure looking back that United are in an ideal situation fiscally with the arrangement.
The Times insists Sanchez – who has four years remaining on his deal – already wants to leave United after a hopeless return of four objectives in 28 appearances.
He is said to be lonely and isolated in the dressing room, while a split from his better half has caused issues off the field.
United are unlikely to undergo wholesale changes in January but could try to shift the Chile internationals’ wages off their books on the off chance that they can discover a suitor.
