Europen Golden Boot: Messi extends lead at the top
Lionel Messi, author of Barcelona’s two goals in the 2-2 draw with Valencia last Saturday, has extended his lead at the top of the leader board for the European Golden Boot 2018-19.
With 42, the Argentinean is currently six points in front of his nearest match, Kylian Mbappé of PSG.
Winner of the Golden Boot in five previous occasions (2009/10, 2011/12, 2012/13, 2016/17, 2017/18), Lionel Messi
has so far scored 21 leagues goals this season. Second-put Kylian Mbappé has 18 league goals (36) to his name, while third-set Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus F.C, who also netted two goals last weekend, has 17 league goals (34 points).
Each season, the Golden Boot is handed out to the player from a European league that accumulates the highest points (granted for every goall ) more than one season.
Players in Europe’s main five alliances – Germany, Spain, Italy, England and France – get two points for every objective scored.
