Citizens complete signing of Columbus Crew goalkeeper Zack Steffen
COLUMBUS CREW have affirmed Manchester City have finished the marking of goalkeeper Zack Steffen.
SunSport solely uncovered that Pep Guardiola was peering toward up a move for the American international last month to provide competition for Ederson.
Steffen will link up with the Citizens squad next summer, with Columbus Crew revealing the transfer fee is the highest the club have received, and the greatest goalkeeper deal in MLS history.
The 23-year-old – who has piled on six tops for the USA – was named as the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year last month.
And the player expressed his delight at sealing a switch to the Etihad, as he expressed gratitude toward the Eastern Conference side.
Speaking to the club’s website, he said: « Any success that I have had as a goalkeeper in MLS with Crew SC is a demonstration of everyone around me who have pushed me – colleagues, mentors, staff, family, companions and supporters.
« The present declaration in regards to next summer is a special moment for me and I look forward to finishing my time with this Club on a strong note.
« I am eager to continue to put in the work to improve and be the best teammate I can.”
Steffen will remain at Crew for the early stages of their 2019 Eastern Conference campaign which starts in March, before moving to City on a four-year bargain in July.
