Smalling is Everton transfer target for free at end of the season
MANCHESTER UNITED star Chris Smalling is wanted by Everton on a free transfer when his arrangement runs out next summer.
The 28-year-old defender has had a solid season so far with various enhanced exhibitions after a tremendous drop in frame.
He has already held talks over a new Old Trafford contract, and needs enhanced terms on his £90,000 seven days compensation.
But the Toffees are hoping to land him next July, in spite of United having an alternative to broaden his arrangement by a further a year.
Even if the Red Devils do add another year onto his contract, Everton will at present hope to purchase Smalling in the January transfer window.
What’s more, Marco Silva – who is set to be backed with funds – has sent scouts to watch the ex-Fulham expert on various events this season.
An Old Trafford source said: “Chris has been looked at by a number of clubs, however Everton have demonstrated a great deal of intrigue.
« He is out of agreement next summer and there’s been talks over expanding it, but nothing has been finalised as of yet.
“There needs to be some protection of the investment in him, so don’t be amazed if the new year bargain comes in.
« In the event that that doesn’t occur then he will leave toward the finish of the season. He can also talk to European clubs in January, we’re aware of that.”
