Breaking News : Milan plummet further into trouble

The final round of Europa League action saw Italian giants AC Milan eliminated from the competition, in a gathering that included Real Betis, Olympiacos and Dudelange.

The same club that won seven Champions League titles and have 18 Serie A championships to their credit, have been living in the shadows and failing to meet expectations for a really long time now.

However, it seems that rather than this being an extraordinary and unusual situation, these battles are the normal condition of things at the San Siro.

Since the 2013/14 battle, the Italian side have failed to qualify for the Champions League.

In the Europa League, which they came back to last season following three infertile years, they reached the last 16 last time out but this year, were eliminated in the group stage.

There was a 200 million euro investment, which included bringing in Leonardo Bonucci, Matteo Musacchio, Hakan Calhanoglu, Nikola Kalinic and Andre Silva, who they trusted would put the club back on the path to success.

They weren’t quite players of the highest level but had enough quality to at least bring them back to Europe’s premier competition.

After a year, half of those players who were conveyed the load and lead the Rossoneri revolution have now packed their bags and moved elsewhere.

This summer, fresh investment saw 100 million euros spent on recruiting Fabio Borini, Gonzalo Higuain,Tiemoue Bakayoko and Samu Castillejo among others.

Presently fourth in Serie A, Milan are a stage beneath the dimensions expected and it was hoped that a potential Europa League run could restore some confidence.

Nonetheless, crush at Olympiacos has taken them back to the real world and they are still far from being the Milan that everyone became so accustomed to.
