Barcelona have qualified on each occasion against Lyon

Barcelona will feel sure going into their last 16 tie against Lyon, especially with the history books being their ally as the Catalans have come out on top in all three previous two-legged meetings between the two.

The first run through the two conflicted was, thinking back to the 2001/02 aggregate stage as Barcelona won 2-0 at the Camp Nou before winning 3-2 in France.

The Blaugrana, driven by Frank Rijkaard, would then take on Juninho Pernambucano’sLyon in 2007/08, again in the group stage, as they won 3-0 at home yet at that point drew 2-2 at the Stade Gerland.

One season later, Barcelona and Les Gones were paired together once more, however this time Pep Guardiola was responsible for the Catalans and it was the last 16 phase of the opposition, as they drew 1-1 in the first leg in France before Barcelona won 5-2 at home in the second leg on their way to winning the trophy.
