Atletico Madrid’s summer plans depend on Griezmann
Affectionately known as the ‘Little Prince’, Antoine Griezmann is yet again the centre of Atletico Madrid’s summer transfer plans, not least on the grounds that there is a remote possibility he may well hope to leave the club for Barcelona.
Los Colchoneros can’t really plan or execute deals until they know what Griezmann plans to do, especially with the Frenchman being the club’s top scorer and supporter of generally helps.
Losing him would be a huge sporting blow to Diego Simeone, although it would certainly take the pressure off the bean-counters behind the scenes with an ever-expanding wage bill coming when the club still need to pay for the move to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.
Replacing a player of such quality wouldn’t be cheap in the current market either, especially as there is such a restricted pool of world class players accessible.
A deal taking Griezmann to another club would cost 120 million euros, and 20 million of that would go to Real Sociedad as a component of the arrangement which Atleti consented to sign the Macon brought into the world forward in any case.
Rodri would be available for 70 million euros, whilst Bayern Munich have already agreed to pay 80 million euros for Lucas Hernandez.
